The three ways money reaches us
- The calculators — free, and not paywalled. Every one of our cost calculators runs without an account, an email address, or a card. There are no ads on these pages and no paid placement inside a result.
- Quote requests — contractors pay us per accepted lead. When you choose to request a real quote, we route your project details to contractors who cover your trade and area, and they pay FixTally a fee for each lead they accept. Requesting a quote is optional: every tool works completely without it. More detail on what we send them is in our privacy policy.
- Phone connections — some partner lines are pay-per-call. Where we publish or connect a phone number to a partner business, that partner may pay FixTally a fee when a call is connected(usually per call that lasts past a short minimum). Two things follow from that, and we’d rather say them plainly:
- You are never charged for calling — the fee runs from the partner to us.
- Calls may be recorded by the partnerfor quality, training, or compliance reasons, under the partner’s own recording notice and your state’s consent rules — not ours. Details: call tracking & recording in our privacy policy.
What payment does not buy
- A better number. The estimates in a calculator are computed from the published base costs and your inputs. We don’t tune a range to flatter anyone who pays us, and no partner sees or edits a result before you do.
- Your contact details as a product. We don’t sell email lists or blast your request to a phone bank. Your details go only to the contractors matched to the request you submitted — that’s the trade you agreed to when you submitted it.
- A guaranteed bid or a guaranteed price. We connect you; the price is settled between you and the contractor who actually quotes the job.
How contractors get on FixTally
Contractors create their own profiles and submit their business details; we can review and remove profiles that look incomplete or misleading. A profile on FixTally is that business’s own claim — not our endorsement, not a background check, not a guarantee of workmanship. Before you hire, confirm the license yourself with your state’s contractor license lookup and ask for a current certificate of insurance.
We publish no review scores or “verified” trust marks we can’t back. A contractor can pay for optional featured placement, but it is always labeled as such on their profile, it buys no change to any estimate, and it never rewrites what homeowners say in a review.
