What FixTally is

Every FixTally page is a working tool. Pick a project — say, a roof replacement or an interior paint job — then enter the details that actually drive price: size, material, story height, scope. The calculator computes an itemized estimate on the spot and shows you the assumptions behind it.

The results adjust to your state, because labor and materials are not priced the same in Mississippi as in Hawaii. Every tool page also carries the static context you need to use the number well: cost tables by size and material, a written methodology, cited sources, and answers to the questions people actually ask before hiring.

Our editorial standards

  • Sources, cited: each calculator is built from base national costs researched from published industry and trade pricing sources. Every tool page lists its sources with links and the month we accessed them. If a figure rests on a single source, the methodology says so.
  • Computed, not asserted: estimates are calculated from your inputs, with regional labor and material factors applied for your state — not copied from a one-size-fits-all article.
  • Honest ranges: results are labeled as estimates with stated assumptions. We never present a range as a guaranteed price, and we never publish fake review scores or invented expert ratings.
  • Reviewed quarterly: the FixTally Editorial Team re-checks costs and updates each tool on a quarterly cycle; when a material price shifts enough to matter, we correct it sooner than the next cycle.
  • Corrections welcome: if a range is off for your market, tell us via our contact form (or admin@fixtally.com) with the page URL, your location, and — if you can share — what local contractors actually quoted you. We review substantive reports and update the affected tool.

Maintained by the FixTally Editorial Team— we track contractor-reported costs and update quarterly. We don’t invent named experts, credentials, or author bios; the team, not a persona, stands behind every page.

What FixTally is not

  • We are not contractors.FixTally doesn’t perform, supervise, or warranty any work, and nothing on this site is licensed professional advice for your specific property.
  • An estimate is not a quote. Calculator results are planning ranges computed from averages and stated assumptions. Only a licensed contractor who has seen your project can quote it — which is exactly what our quote request is for.
  • Not an appraisal. Our figures are not formal appraisals or insurance valuations, and they don’t substitute for one.

How FixTally makes money

The calculators are free, and using them never obligates you to anything — no account, no contact info, no follow-up call.

We earn money one way: when you choose to request a real quote, we share your project details with contractors who serve your area, and those contractors pay us a fee per leadfor the connection. That is the entire business model, and we’d rather tell you plainly than have you guess.

  • Requesting a quote is optional and always your decision — every tool works fully without it.
  • Paying contractors do not get better numbers: the estimates published on this site are maintained independently of any lead relationship and don’t favor one vendor over another.
  • If you request a quote, any price you ultimately agree on is between you and the contractor — we don’t set contractor prices or guarantee bid outcomes.
